Frustrated with the conditions that immigrant workers face in the United States, I decided to travel to Parlier California to talk to them directly. I spoke to over a dozen immigrant workers and collected stories from their experiences on the farm.
I asked each person to give me one of their dirty shirts in exchange for a new one. Utilizing the shirts as part of the canvas, I displayed an abstract poem about oppression in columns on the wall.
Behind each shirt is a plaque that has the workers name, age, shirt size, and quote.

The average age of farm workers in Parlier is 60 to 70 years old. They work 6 days a week, 10 hour days at minimum wage. While we take for granted where our food comes from, 'Shirt off Their Back' is meant to remind us of our privileged lifestyle.
